一、拉米尤瑟夫（Ramy Youssef）

典禮開場第一個獎就讓人感到意外。拉米尤瑟夫以半自傳影集《拉米》（Ramy）拿下最佳喜劇類影集男主角，比起它劇《拉米》的知名度顯然低了不少，就連他本人獲獎時也玩笑說道：「我知道你們都還沒看過我的劇。」

二、《1917》

一戰電影《1917》拿下最佳劇情類影片和最佳導演。外界大多預期導演獎會由《寄生上流》奉俊昊（Bong Joon-ho）拿下，若由《愛爾蘭人》馬丁史柯西斯 （Martin Scorsese）或著《從前，有個好萊塢》昆汀塔倫提諾（Quentin Tarantino）獲獎也不會讓人感到意外。但最終卻由山姆曼德斯（Sam Mendes）擊敗強敵，更在約莫一小時後再拿最大獎最佳劇情類影片。

三、泰隆艾格頓（Taron Egerton）

在《火箭人》中詮釋傳奇歌手艾爾頓強的泰隆艾格頓（Taron Egerton）獲獎不算非常意外，畢竟他的演出受到多數好評。但在一票資深影星中，例如李奧納多狄卡皮歐（Leonardo DiCaprio）、艾迪墨菲（Eddie Murphy），他能拿下音樂或喜劇類最佳男主角著實讓人略感意外。

四、《大冒險家》（Missing Link）

最佳動畫片得主今年由全球票房僅有美金 2600 萬的《大冒險家》（Missing Link）獲得（低於其餘全數競爭者《冰雪奇緣2》、《馴龍高手3》、《玩具總動員4》、《獅子王》（The Lion King）的首周末票房）。當揭曉得獎名單時，就連編導克里斯巴特勒（Chris Butler）和製作人亞蓮恩蘇特納（Arianne Sutner）都似乎掩蓋不了自己感到驚訝的神情。

五、《繼承之戰》（Succession）

在外界多預測《王冠》會是最佳戲劇類影集得主時，HBO 影集《繼承之戰》不僅隨著時間受到越來越多人喜愛，更向好萊塢外國記者協會（HFPA）證明自己。若說得到最佳戲劇類影集已讓人有點意外，那麼男主角布萊恩考克斯（Brian Cox）獲獎更是一大驚喜。他本人上台致詞時，向其餘提名者說聲抱歉，並坦承沒想過這會發生在他身上。
